Gareth emphasizes that the half pass is found all the way to Grand Prix, and how important it is to teach the horse to move forward through the movement and not stiffen and lose the gait. Creating tightness damages the gymnastic effect of the exercise. Gareth demonstrates some of the common problems that happen in training the half pass as well as a quality half pass to illustrate how differently the horse moves. He then clearly shows us what aids he uses to control each part of the horse and what can go wrong. He gives excellent advice on how to break down this difficult movement and build a great half pass.
