Part 2: Dorothy has the rider work on adding and lengthening between fences, including a corner, oxers and verticals. The mare is hot and forward going, so Dorothy works with the rider to harness this energy into a long stride, or compress it and control it to add. Dorothy creates a challenging course including a sharp turn back and varying number of strides. She reminds the rider to keep her knees and toes open to let the hips swing, but keep the shoulder still. They work on separating the shoulder from the hip for the rider, while trying to keep the mare available and maintaining a good shape so the rider can be soft on the reins. Dorothy encourages the rider to get comfortable with making mistakes.
