Part 1: Dorothy opens the session by explaining that the rider who is working towards a two star competition with her intermediate horse just had a successful event, but had control issues across country. She explains the importance of having breaks which allow for steering and recovery after a fence, so the rider can ride forward to the next question without having to pull back to try to maintain control. They work in the show jumping arena to finesse the shape of the horse and position of the rider, and reinstall the breaks. They warm up over fences, working to keep the mare available on landing.
