Joyce Heuitink rides a ten year old Grand Prix mare and demonstrates suppleness, lateral work, walk and canter pirouettes, and transitions within the gaits. They have not warmed up before the start of taping, so we get to see the whole work session. She begins by looking for relaxation and attention to her, making sure she is not too short in the neck. She gives a great explanation and demonstration of getting the mare to stretch her neck while keeping contact. Joyce shows how she rides through some spookiness before moving on to the canter. She rides a haunches in on the circle at the canter to work on suppleness and relaxation. She rides transitions within the canter in the same frame and direction.
