Part 1: Dorothy introduces the rider and her horse, an OTTB, who she is jumping for the first time. She opens the session by instructing the rider to make sure she has good breaks and the horse is responding to voice cues as he came off the track a year ago, and is a big, strong mover. They begin working over a series of gymnastics, including a bounce, and Dorothy reminds the rider to prepare earlier and make sure she is choosing the quality of the canter for the approach. She explains that a good canter coming into the first fence, makes any distance good. The horse tends to run out of room and uses drifting to create more space for himself. Dorothy begins to help the rider keep him straight using her leg and a drift rail.
