USDF Sport Horse Development Forum - Relax the Topline | Scott Hassler | PART 02
15m
Scott talks about how at this stage in their training that they ride forward transitions. They ride the trot circles with him accepting the seat and back of the rider, an d more as if he was a seven year old. He shows a beautiful go button, but before they go to the canter he has her ride serpentine looks to make sure he is supple. He shows great balance in the canter, and Scott asks her to gradually ride him more forward by one mile per hour at a time. They use the same exercise in reverse for coming back. The better the canter gets, the quicker they can make these transitions, keeping him through the bit without rushing. They ask for stretching two inches at a time rather than throwing the reins away. Every stride is a movement.
