Laura points out that with a nervous horse it is sometimes best to put them to work to deal with the energy.  She offers great advice on schooling the extended walk with a horse that curls. To prepare for the flying changes Laura has her first ride the canter in the shoulder fore position and transition to the walk and back to the canter while holding the position.  They then do canter walk canter transitions in counter canter, showing she doesn't need bend to pick up the canter.
