Getting Balance in the Young Horse - Part 1
15m
As the next pair begins, Scott Hassler asks the rider to have the mare walk without hitting the contact on the reins. They show a great energetic working trot as they warm up. Scott talks about how the riders of young horses need to be light, but not just on the horse. In the right trot she shows less balance than in the left trot. Scott asks to see the canter in both directions before starting the training. He reviews with the rider what she does in her own training with the mare, and suggests that they need to work on her right side getting more fluid and coordinated rather than change her tempo. He covers how he wants to train the horse to go in a straight line and gives her a great exercise as she goes down the long side.
