Part 1: International Grand Prix rider, trainer and clinician Chrissa Hoffman rides a promising five year old in the dressage arena to demonstrate canter exercises for the young horse. Chrissa begins at the walk, making sure it's relaxed but active, and on the aides. Explaining her position and the movements of her body, she talks thoroughly through each exercise she employs, including a simple version of shoulder fore and leg yielding to get the inside hind leg more active. Her insights into each stage of the session guides the viewer through common young horse issues such as getting tired quickly, and some attention issues. Chrissa increases the difficulty, working on the beginnings of a pirouette, and maintaining the canter.
